Michael P. Burnham Greenwire (Environment & Energy Publishing), Washington, D.C.

Michael Burnham is a senior reporter for the online newswire Greenwire, where he covers energy and environmental issues as they relate to business, technology, and policy. Prior to this, he wrote for The Olympian, Seattle Times, Sustainable Industries and other publications. The variety of topics Burnham has covered includes biofuels, offshore energy, sustainable development and wetlands. His reporting has won awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Society of Environmental Journalists and Gannett. Burnham has a B.A. from the University of Oregon and an M.S.J. from Northwestern University.

Michael R. Cohea Community Newspaper Co. (Gatehouse Media) Raynham, MA

Michael Cohea is currently a staff multimedia photojournalist for Community Newspaper Company, a subsidiary of GateHouse Media. He provides photographs for 15 weekly newspapers in southeastern Massachusetts and for the GateHouse Media News Service. Cohea also provides daily website updates, audio slideshows and videos often focusing on environmental issues. He was recently named Photographer of the Year in the Best of GateHouse 2007 editorial excellence contest, GateHouse Media's company-wide competition. Cohea has a B.A. in journalism with an emphasis in photojournalism from the University of Montana.

Kelly Cuculiansky Daytona Beach News-Journal, New Smyrna Beach, FL

Kelly Cuculiansky is a staff writer for the Daytona Beach News-Journal in Florida. She is a beat reporter for the city of Edgewater as well as a photographer, feature writer, and breaking news reporter. Her stories are mainly news-features, but also relate to the local ecology. Cuculiansky is a Chips Quinn Scholar, and her outstanding written piece about the USS Indianapolis won her the Summer 2005 Chips Achievement Award from Chips Quinn Scholars in 2005. She received a B.S. in journalism from the University of Florida in 2005.

Diego Cupolo The Star-Ledger, Newark, NJ

Diego Cupolo has been a staff writer and news assistant for the Star-Ledger since early 2007. He covers environmental issues on both state and local levels. Previously, Cupolo interned with The Gotham Gazette in New York City, New York. He was also a freelance writer and photographer for The Hartford Courant in 2005. Cupolo has traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to provide aid to hurricane-affected areas, and has also volunteered with the United for Peace and Justice coalition. Diego currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and has previously lived in Mexico City, Mexico; Caracas, Venezuela; Connecticut; and New Jersey. Cupolo received a B.A. in journalism and communication sciences in 2006.

Christine Cyr Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, New York, NY

Christine Cyr is a senior associate editor at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia where she edits and writes a number of books and special interest magazines. She is also an active freelance writer for publications such as Plenty, Outside, and Backpacker. As a freelancer, Cyr has written stories on a range of subjects, including geothermal power, car sharing, electronics recycling, biofuels, and air pollution. She taught English in France for a year after graduating from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in French and business in 2000.

Ian Fein West Marin Citizen, Point Reyes Station, CA

Ian Fein is an environmental reporter for the West Marin Citizen. He is the lead reporter covering solely environmental news and features, which are often related to marine science and agriculture. Previously, as a reporter for the Vineyard Gazette, he won awards from the New England Press Association for his coverage of a property tax trial and a series about energy conservation. Fein graduated from the University of California, Berkley in 2002 with a B.A. in English.

Liam Moriarty Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle, WA

Liam Moriarty has been reporting on the environment for NPR-member station KPLU since 1996. He covers issues and events relating to the environment for public radio listeners in western Washington state. Moriarty was previously the News Director for Jefferson Public Radio in Oregon, and he also lives part time in France. In 2006 Moriarty received second place for Best News Series in the Pacific Northwest Society of Professional Journalists' annual contest.

Myron B. Pitts The Fayetteville Observer, Fayetteville, NC Myron B. Pitts

Myron Pitts is a metro columnist for The Fayetteville Observer where he started in 2001 as an assistant community news editor. He writes three columns a week on city, county or regional issues. Pitts does a weekly commentary and blog for The Fayetteville Observer website's newscast. He also co-hosts, along with his brothers, the radio talk show, "MP3," which airs on two local radio stations. Pitts earned a second place statewide writing award from the North Carolina Press Association in 2007 for his humor columns. He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in journalism in 1993.

Jacob Resneck Mountain Communications Radio (WNBZ, Rock105, Y106), Saranac Lake, NY

Jacob Resneck is a freelance journalist based in the Adirondack Park of upstate New York. He works as a general assignment reporter for Mountain Communications Radio in Saranac Lake, NY and freelances regularly for North Country Public Radio in Canton, NY, The Press-Republican in Plattsburgh, NY and Adirondack Explorer and Adirondack Life magazines. He was awarded Best Business Coverage from the New York State Newspaper Publishers Association in 2007 for a series comparing the economic challenges of global warming on ski areas in the Austrian Alps and the Adirondacks. He completed the series during a six-week international fellowship in Austria. He also won a state award for his contribution to a series on the state's illegal tree cutting on preserves in 2006. Resneck graduated from the University of Leeds in Leeds England with a Bachelor of Arts in international studies in 2002.

Rick Smith Freelance, Bozeman, MT

Rick Smith is a full-time freelance documentary filmmaker and cinematographer. He works with clients to produce, edit and/or film both broadcast and non-broadcast media. Some of his clients have included Versus (formerly Outdoor Life Network), ESPN2, Yellowstone National Park, The Nature Conservancy, and National Geographic Television. His most recent film, Fish and Cow, won him the Montana Filmmaker Award at the 2008 International Wildlife Film Festival. His productions have also won him several Telly Awards for cinematography and environmental programming. Smith graduated from Whitman College with a B.A. in biology in 2002. Smith will also be completing his M.F.A. in science filmmaking from Montana State University in December of this year.
