Expedition Grizzly

2008 Metcalf Fellow Rick Smith spent the past year recording naturalist Casey Anderson on an expedition to chronicle the lives and struggles of grizzly bears in Yellowstone National Park. The program showcases Anderson's unique relationship with his best friend Brutus, an 800-pound grizzly bear that he raised from birth.

Smith, 2nd unit director of photography on the project, thinks the show is "a great example of attempting to popularize conservation and working within the limitations of broadcast television to get some science across to the general public."

"Expedition Grizzly featuring Casey Anderson" premiers Sunday, May 3, 2009, at 9 p.m. Eastern on the National Geographic Channel.
